AUSTIN — A colloquium on Inequality and Human Rights will focus on the Greek economic crisis from 4-6 p.m. on Monday, September 28, in the Sheffield Room of the University of Texas Law School. It is sponsored by the Bernard and Audre Rappoport Center for Human Rights and Justice and features University of Texas professor James Galbraith and Georgetown law professors Alvaro Santos and Philomila Tsoukala.
As the crises of austerity economics creep north into the Eurozone, they are sparking new forms of popular resistance. But the globalized financial institutions make country-by-country solutions extremely difficult. The effect of austerity on human rights, inequality, and democracy will be the focus of these experts on the Greek debt crisis. The discussion will shed light on both the promise and limitations of anti-austerity campaigns.
